FAQs
- Q?What is InsOpaint Interior?
-
A.
InsOpaint Interior offers the perfect balance: excellent quality and maximum performance with a noticeably superior texture and finish. With very low VOC/odour levels, InsOpaint’s incredible combination of breathability along with its insulating properties helps dramatically reduce condensation problems, if not eliminating them entirely. InsOpaint, has been independently tested across the world to UK, EU and ASTM standards. Applying a minimum of two coats of InsOpaint on walls and ceilings gives maximum thermal efficiency. InsOpaint covers up to 7 m² per litre with the recommended minimum of two coats. Thermilate InsOpaint Interior can easily be applied by brush, roller or spray. If you are spray painting, filters MUST be removed and nozzle size increased to between 0.019X to 0.026X. Use InsOpaint in just the same areas as conventional emulsions. InsOpaint however has a distinct energy-saving advantage and has been scientifically proven to work. We recommend a minimum of two coats to achieve maximum thermal efficiency and three coats on exterior walls, internally. So a 5L tub will cover up to 35 m² with 2 coats. You can wallpaper over InsOpaint and it will continue to provide you with a thermal barrier to reduce the heat lost through the walls and ceilings by reflecting the heat BACK in to the room/building. The same energy-saving results will be obtained by InsOpaint’s thermal barrier, because once it’s been painted on, it keeps working. InsOpaint works well when painted on top of lining paper, wallpaper already painted with another emulsion and non-blown vinyl wallpapers. InsOpaint should not be applied to “blown vinyl” wallpapers which absorb the paint and leave the insulating micro technology as a residue which will later become dispersed. It comes in 24 different colours and ships in 5L containers.

-
A.
InsO products contain Thermilate’s unique insulating micro technology which forms a unique thermal barrier once it has dried. This barrier reduces heat and carbon emissions escaping down through floors/walls by reflecting the heat BACK into the room. It also keeps rooms warmer for longer and speeds up the time needed to warm up a room.
- Q?Where are InsO products manufactured?
-
A.
All Thermilate paints and coatings are manufactured in the UK.
- Q?How much CO2 can be saved by using InsO products?
-
A.
InsO products can help you to save up to 600kg of carbon emissions annually. Every degree centigrade reduction you make on your heating thermostat equates to a CO² reduction of a whopping 300Kg. As InsO products can lead to a 2 degree reduction, this equates to 600kg per annum.
- Q?How do InsO products reduce condensation?
-
A.
As InsO products allow you to reduce your thermostat by up to 2 degrees centigrade, thermal barrier will keep the cold floor/wall surface and the warmer air apart. As you touch the floor/wall with your hand you can feel the heat from your hand being reflected back, and the floor/wall will feel warmer to the touch. InsO products have the same effect with the warm air from your heating system, reflecting it back into the room instead of the heat being drawn to the colder surface of the floor/wall, and escaping. The contact between the warm air and the cold floor/wall is dramatically reduced once InsO products are applied. Therefore the production of water droplets and condensation is dramatically reduced if not totally eliminated.
- Q?Why does condensation occur?
-
A.
Condensation occurs when the warm air in a room is attracted to a cool substrate. Water droplets then form on the wall/floor/window surface and the condensation builds up. This can also cause discolouration, staining, peeling wallpaper, blistering paint and mould growth. This may also lead to health problems related with damp living conditions.
- Q?How much money can I save on my heating bills by using InsO products?
-
A.
InsO products prevent heat escaping through floors/walls without increasing the heating system thermostat, so saves you money on heating costs. Typically for every degree centigrade you are able to reduce on your heating thermostat in a 3-bedroom semi-detached house, you can save £55 off your heating bill (Energy Saving Trust, 2010). As InsO products allow you to reduce your thermostat by up to 2 degrees centigrade without feeling a cooling effect, this equates to a £165 per annum.
- Q?How much heat can be saved by using InsO products?
-
A.
InsO products can save up to 25% of heat lost through floors. Independent testing has shown that room temperature can increase by 1 to 2 degrees centigrade when painted with InsO products. Turning down your heating thermostat by every degree centigrade amounts to around a 10% saving off heating bills. (Energy-Saving Trust 2010).
- Q?Where have Thermilate products been tested and approved?
-
A.
All Thermilate products are manufactured using the original micro insulating technologies which have been independently tested across the world to UK, EU and ASTM
- Q?What are the environmental benefits when using InsO products?
-
A.
In today’s environment, we are all aware of the damage which can be caused by conventional paints emitting Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s). InsO products are made by combining clay and titanium oxide – ensuring the paint breathes easier and has an extremely low VOC level, to help reduce the carbon footprint. Thermilate water-based paints provide you with a healthy and environmentally friendly option and oppose paints that are made using toxic substances, which damage the environment, our homes and our bodies. Thermilate feels it is necessary that the VOC content and the Petroleum Oil Polymer levels in the paint are limited, whilst maintaining excellent quality and performance.
- Q?Can you use a fungicidal product on top of InsO products without any adverse effects?
-
A.
Yes, a clear, water-based fungicidal product can be safely used in conjunction with InsO products. If this is a necessary precaution to be made, try a patch test first with a clear anti-fungicidal treatment in an out of view test area first).
- Q?What is the payback time with InsO products?
-
A.
The payback period for InsO products, based on an average 3 bedroom semi-detached home, is just under 18 months. As you can see, it really is easily one of the most cost-effective insulating products available.
